Flooring Resources
For Every Project
Buying guides, maintenance tips, comparison charts, and expert advice — everything Chicagoland homeowners and businesses need to make confident flooring decisions.
Why Good Flooring Information Matters
Replacing or installing new floors is one of the most impactful home improvements you can make — and one of the most confusing. With dozens of product categories, conflicting marketing claims, and wildly varying price points, knowing where to start can feel overwhelming.
That's why Carpet Services Incorporated (CSI) created this flooring resources hub. For over 45 years, our team has guided Chicagoland homeowners and business owners through every stage of the flooring journey — from the very first question to the final walk-through after installation.
These guides reflect real field experience, not generic content. Whether you're weighing carpet against luxury vinyl plank, trying to keep hardwood looking new, or calculating how much material to buy, you'll find straightforward, trustworthy answers here.
When you're ready to move from research to results, our showroom at 30 W Fay Ave in Addison is open Monday–Friday, 9 am–4 pm. Or call us at (708) 222-8200 — a real flooring specialist picks up.

The biggest factor in how long your floors look great isn't the price — it's how they're maintained. Here are the most impactful habits our team shares with every CSI customer after installation:
- 1 Use the right cleaner for your floor type. Hardwood needs a pH-neutral solution; tile can handle mild acidic cleaners for grout; LVP should never be steam-cleaned. Using the wrong product voids most warranties.
- 2 Protect entry points. Up to 80% of dirt and grit enters from doorways. Quality entrance mats — both outside and inside — dramatically reduce the abrasive wear on all floor types.
- 3 Felt pads under every leg. Hardwood and luxury vinyl are vulnerable to scratches from furniture. Replace felt pads twice a year; they compress and lose effectiveness over time.
- 4 Control humidity year-round. Wood and engineered products are sensitive to seasonal humidity swings. Keep interior relative humidity between 35–55% to prevent cupping, gapping, and cracking.
- 5 Address spills within minutes. Most floor finishes are water-resistant, not waterproof. Standing liquid — especially on hardwood seams — can cause permanent damage if left more than 15–20 minutes.
